Certification

The value of a precious stone is determined by its gemological makeup, natural properties, rarity and finished quality. At Liali we believe that peace of mind is the single most important aspect when one is investing in diamonds.

Diamonds and gemstones of similar appearance can have important differences in value. Even experts need powerful analytic tools to detect synthetics, treatments and enhancement processes. An independent Certificate clearly discloses the details of any item it accompanies, providing confidence for both buyer and seller. It’s a stamp that represents the all-important 5th C that no one should be without: Confidence of certification.

An international certificate of quality gives your diamond a fixed value across all borders. In the event that you want to sell your stone, the quality is guaranteed. It will never be open to debate under any circumstance. Thus at Liali all diamonds are certified by some of the most reputed international gem laboratories like: the International Gemological Institute (IGI), Solitaire Gemological Laboratories (SGL),

Hoge Raad voor Diamond (HRD) and Gemological Institute of America (GIA)

Gemstones should only change hands when accompanied by a certificate attesting to quality. Regardless of location or marketplace, an authentic Laboratory Report is the common language of trust and confidence in the gemological world, and should be considered an essential part of any transaction. At Liali Jewellery, we take this responsibility very seriously.

Certification FAQs

A diamond certificate, often called a grading report, is an official document issued by an independent gemological laboratory. It typically appears as a securely printed or electronically generated report that details the diamond's unique characteristics. It includes a clear diagram and a full breakdown of the 4Cs (Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat Weight), along with additional technical specifications like symmetry, polish, and fluorescence. The report is usually embossed or watermarked with the issuing lab's seal to prevent counterfeiting and may include a unique QR code for immediate online verification.

While the physical certificate is an important document, its loss does not diminish the value or authenticity of your diamond. The unique grading report number is often laser-inscribed onto the girdle of the diamond itself (a security feature offered by most major labs).

  • To get a replacement: You can contact us with the jewelry. Once we verify the inscription number, we can assist in obtaining a duplicate digital or physical copy for a nominal fee.
  • Proof of Identity: The inscription serves as irrefutable proof that the diamond matches the data stored in the lab's secure, public database.

Verifying your diamond's certificate online is a quick and essential step to confirm its authenticity:

  • Locate the Number: Find the unique Certificate Number printed on the certificate or grading report.
  • Visit the Lab's Website: Go directly to the official website of the issuing grading laboratory (e.g., GIA, IGI, HRD Antwerp).
  • Use the Report Check Tool: Navigate to the "Report Check" or "Verify a Report" section and enter your unique certificate number.

The system will instantly pull up the digital version of your diamond's exact report, allowing you to confirm all details match the stone in your possession.

While several reputable laboratories operate globally, the industry holds a few as the most trusted and universally recognized for their consistency and stringent grading standards:

  • Gemological Institute of America (GIA): Widely considered the gold standard in the industry, the GIA established the 4Cs and their reports are known for their high level of consistency and authority.
  • International Gemological Institute (IGI): One of the largest and most established gemological organizations, highly regarded for their grading of jewelry and natural diamonds.
  • HRD Antwerp: A highly respected European lab known for its meticulous grading, especially within the European market. Their reports provide exceptional detail and quality assurance.

We proudly partner only with laboratories whose reports are fully verifiable and provide the assurance our customers deserve.
